Description

This Seadog 30 Motor Sailor is a very solidly built centre cockpit ketch with Triple Keels, so ideal for drying moorings. With 5 berths in 2 cabins, this Seadog 30 is best described as a project boat with a small ”p”, although this description does not really do her justice. Her current Owner has owned her for over 20 years and has carried out a considerable amount of work on her during this time. Major works have included installing a new Beta BV 1505 Engine, refurbished glazing throughout, diesel cabin heater installed, new oven, shore power and much more. Sadly her current Owners are unable to sail her any longer & she has not been sailed for a while now, so she is being sold as she is, where she is. That said, since being bought ashore , she has been thoroughly cleaned, had new antifoul and her cockpit tent has been re-furbished which mean she now presents well & is ready for more adventures with new Owners. We are aware that above the waterline, there is blistering to the hull, but strangely this is not noticeable below & she will of course also need new rigging, hence why she is being sold at such a low price. She is currently lying Southampton

This Seadog 30 Motorsailor really is a boat with a huge amount of character & a lot to offer her new Owner. With 5 berths including 2 in the dedicated aft cabin, a very spacious comfortable saloon, galley with gas cooker, sink, fridge & cabin heating, she has many of the home comforts you could ask for. This is complimented by a deep & safe cockpit with full Canvas enclosure for protection between the forward & aft cabins. Not only this, but it has the huge advantage of having had a modern Beta 37.5 HP engine fitted and of course it benefits from a triple keel with encapsulated ballast meaning she is ideally suited for drying or mud berths. Although she has been afloat, she hasn’t been properly sailed for a while now and will require a little TLC to bring her back to her best, but she is priced to reflect this and is by no means a complete “Project”. She would make a great liveaboard or a very solid cruiser for travelling further afield and Seadog 30’s have been known tom circumnavigate the globe, so it is a very solid and well constructed vessel. Currently ashore in Southampton, where she has just been anti-fouled and cleaned, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

The Seadog was first introduced in 1964, designed and built by Reg Freeman A.R.I.N.A. The design was popular, and production continued for many years, with very minor design changes. They offer an unusual combination of qualities - a good enough and tough enough heavy-displacement sailing boat to cross oceans, yet relatively shallow draught and the ability to take the ground. Add in a deep safe cockpit protected from the worst of the weather by a fixed windscreen, and masts in tabernacles so they can be lowered if necessary without outside assistance, and you have a genuinely go-almost-anywhere boat, from ocean passages.
