"The sea is dangerous and its storms terrible but these obstacles have never been sufficient reason to remain ashore. Unlike the mediocre, intrepid spirits seek victory over those things that seem impossible. It is with an iron will that they embark on the most daring of all endeavors, to meet the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown."
Nothing could capture the legacy of Gemini Catamarans better than the above quote credited to explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Original Performance Cruising founder Tony Smith moved his entire family across a temperamental Atlantic Ocean to build a better boat and further introduce the United States, specifically the Chesapeake, to multihulls. Our history over three decades takes us through water, fire and more than one economic downturn. Not only has the company survived but thrived.
Gemini Catamarans President, Laura Smith Hershfeld, carries on this legacy not only by keeping the family tradition of superior catamaran design alive, but also through her dedication of her first build, our Legacy 35. This Gem was a joint endeavor between Laura, her father Tony and the late Warren Luhrs. The Catamaran Company rounds out the strength of our group through vision, capital and marketing.
What started as a Phoenix rising from the ashes now dots the world’s oceans, lakes and rivers with over 1,200 Gemini catamarans from the 3000 model to the Legacy 35. Our history is courageous, our present inspiring and our future knows no bounds.
