When Launched, the First Class 8 was noted as the "little rocket" and to this day "Lightning" is still a very competitive racer/cruiser. After being successfully raced in the Isle of Man for the past seven years she has been brought to Windermere to be sold. She comes equipped with a good suit of sails from North and Goacher and has also had all running and standing rigging replaced this year including a new carbon Spinnaker pole (2019). Wheeled yard trolley included.
With a GRP construction and extra hull liner, the First class 8 is an exceptionally stiff sailing boat, making her very responsive on the helm.
2018 saw a full re-paint, inside and out and a fresh coat of copper paint on the underside. The gorgeous navy blue topside makes her as fantastic to look at as she is to sail.
Sliding hatch with clear perspex washboard and windows in the coach roof makes down below feel surprisingly light and airy.
With a 515kg retractable keel, generously sized rig and large transom hung rudder "Lightning" sails high and fast.
Sails and Rigging
In 2019 "Lightning" was fitted with a new set of cap shrouds, turnbuckles and forestay. She was also dressed in complete new set of dyneema running rigging and a new carbon spinnaker pole.
Sails are described as follows:
North Main in "good" condition (4 years old)
North Main in "ok" condition (unknown age)
North No. 3 Genoa (3 years old)
North No . 3 Genoa (unknown age)
Goacher Spinnaker in "very good" condition (1 year old)

Accommodation and layout
A large open cockpit and relatively wide side decks make moving around on deck a dream. Sliding coach roof hatch and large companion way allow for easy access down below. "Lightning" has been used primarily for racing hence moving down below you don't see a lot of creature comforts. This allows for quick access to sails, fenders and and any other spares stored below decks. There is however plenty of room for a few people if the weather turns or even a porta loo.
A recent survey (2018) has been carried out on "Lightning" and is available for viewing at our office in Windermere.
