Boat Name: Koru (Formerly the Cellular One)

Hatteras Legacy

Koru is a Jack Hargrave-designed, production-built narrow-body Hatteras cockpit motor yacht. Hatteras Yachts set the standard in superior quality, with all fiberglass construction (no coring), Imron painted exteriors, 316 stainless hardware, and unmatched American-made skilled craftsmanship. Notably, narrow body design allows individual access at various points and ease of crew around the outside of the vessel. A 105’ square-foot rear cockpit features quick engine room access and ample space for entertaining, along with hidden in-floor diesel-heated hot tub.

Koru sleeps 6 owners and guests (1 Master and 2 VIP suites), each with en suite bathrooms (head and shower). The Master features 2 giant cedar-lined closets, handcrafted built-ins and drawers, and a massive independently lit mirrored vanity. Captain/Crew accommodations sleep 3 in 2 rooms, with own kitchenette, head and shower forward. Koru's interior design and configuration is lovingly maintained, remaining true to the original factory specifications, including African teak wood paneling and custom cabinetry. Koru's sky lounge on the upper deck is designed for entertaining, with welcoming horseshoe seating area that holds 10 guests seated, as well as a host’s bar fridge, sink, and new stainless barbecue.

Extensive Captain maintained attention to mechanical and technological upgrades, along with thorough maintenance keep Koru in prime condition for cruising. Her most recent major voyage hosted six (6) owners and guests exploring Canada’s Haida Gwai historic cultural preserves and Queen Charlotte Islands archipelago in 2018. This 10-week trip saw Koru “off the grid”, on generator and inverter power, except for 4 days at provisioning and fueling points in British Columbia.

KORU, a Pacific Northwest Icon

Koru was originally a corporate yacht for McCaw Cellular and was brought through the Panama Canal under her own hull, new in 1983. As the McCaw Cellular vessel, she became well known, recognized, and admired throughout the Puget Sound region as the M/V Cellular One.

No expense was spared on Cellular One, and benefitted from technology and hardware upgrades that made her a local icon in the Seattle area for over 20 years. She was consistently outfitted and captain-maintained in a freshwater boathouse on Lake Union, and as result, Koru proudly meets the mark with much younger boats. In early 2000 Cellular One was sold, moved to Canada, and renamed “Koru”, a New Zealand Māori word meaning "a new beginning.”

In 2017 the current owner acquired Koru and reinstated her official U.S. Coast Guard Registry status, with taxes paid in Washington State through an LLC. Since then she has experienced a second "new beginning,” with nearly every system either rebuilt or replaced.

This is your chance to own a Legendary Motor Yacht, with a known pedigree and lineage, at a price-point well under comparable Yachts in the 70' to 80' foot range at an asking price of $620,000 USD.
