Description

“HOOLIGAN” is a classic Sparkman and Stevens designed 1982 Tartan 37 (Hull # 370).  After completing a two year refit the owner since 2000 is moving to a power boat.  The refit completed in early 2021 included a complete refurbishing inside and out with many updates and equipment additions.

Updates to the exterior included installation of NFM SST portlights, rebuilt hatches, fresh varnish on all deck teak (brite), and new wet-edge anti-skid.  All deck lighting has been replaced with LED.  The bottom has just been stripped to gelcoat and a barrier coat applied followed by new ablative bottom paint.  Running gear has prop-glide applied.  While hauled for bottom work, the hull was buffed (Hooligan still maintains her original white hull gelcoat) and waxed.

The updates to the interior include new WATCO treatment with varnished highlights.   A 18,500 BTU A/C system with “soft start” (which allows the system to operate using a 2500-watt portable generator) was installed.  The A/C installation is behind custom removable cabinets which provide access to the unit for maintenance.  The traditional V-berth cut-out was removed and additional custom cabinets installed in place of the cut-out.  A custom memory foam mattress with waterproof cover has been installed.  The original 3 burner alcohol stove has been replaced with a 2 burner Dometic gimbaled unit and a Magic Chef microwave installed below.  All interior lighting has been replaced with LED and electrical capacity has been increased from 210-amp hours to 410-amp hours.  New cushions have also been added in the salon.

A major overhaul has been recently performed on the original Westerbeke Model 50 engine.  The overhaul included head work and valve adjustment, fuel injection pump rebuild, new raw water pump, new heat exchanger, new freshwater pump, new engine hoses and belts, new gaskets, and paint.  The engine has 164 hours since the completion of the overhaul.

Cruising sails (120 and 155) are mounted on a Harken MK III roller furl system and were refurbished by Atlantic Sails in Sarasota, FL in 2020.  The North main sail and Ulmer non-symmetrical are both in good condition.

The Tartan 37 is a very capable performance cruiser and one of Tartan’s most popular designs.  It has comfortable accommodations for up to 4 and is easy to sail.  Hooligan has taken its current owners on numerous cruises and weekend adventures in South Florida, the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, and Southwest Florida and is now ready to begin new adventures with new owners.
