Waypoint is a two-stateroom design. Beds have custom made memory foam mattresses:
To steal a quote from PassageMaker Magazine: "If you thought that only automobiles could be cult objects, think again. It's not just a Mustang or a '66' vette that sets the blood pounding, at least not for yachting enthusiasts, because the boating world has its own cult boats. What makes a cult boat? Well, quality is the starting point as well as great design, of course. Then there must be a "rightness" for the intended purpose, such as fishing for the Bertram or chasing girls for the Boton Whaler. Timing, of course, is crucial: It has to arrive at the right place at the right time. There is also something indefinable too, a certain element that exudes appeal. And, of course, there has to be owner devotion, that near fanatical following of true believers who are also missionaries for their cult. And so we come to the DeFever 49. If there is a cult yacht for the passagemaker set, it is this yacht."
The DeFever 49’ raised pilothouse full displacement yacht has beautiful, classic lines. The high-flared bow, Portuguese bridge, wide walk-around decks with high bulwarks, spacious cockpit and sundeck, raised pilothouse and flybridge make this trawler almost instantly identifiable in the cruising world.
Waypoint comes to the market from 22-year-long owners who have recently returned from a 3 month cruise and have nothing but positive things to say about the boat itself and the things that are most important to a serious boater: safety, reliability, comfort, cost-effectiveness and handleability. The owners have lived aboard this vessel for 16 of the 22 years.
This boat is the classic and much sought-after “Plan A” version which provides access to the engine room through both a hatch in the cockpit and via the galley. It has two staterooms and two bathrooms. With steering stations in both the inside pilothouse and on the flybridge, you can be underway in any type of weather. It is a safe and easy boat to handle, with side decks protected by high bulwarks, the security of a Portuguese bridge, and easy access from bow to stern for docking.
One of the major selling points (for the current owners) is the large engine room and connecting lazarette with plenty of space to work on the engines and for storage. The overall maintenance, arrangement, cleanliness and organization in Waypoint’s engine room is sure to please the most discriminating Captain.
Other great features, in addition what has already been mentioned, include a large swim platform with telescoping swim ladder; adjustable seat cushions and decorative throw pillows for cockpit seating; rail mounted fishing rod holders; Awlgrip paint, non-skid decking on the bow, sundeck & pilothouse, and just the right amount of exterior teak trim to maintain the classic appeal of this trawler. The amount of storage in this vessel is almost too good to be true and was definitely a factor when the current owners decided on this vessel. The raised and adjustable chairs on the flybridge provide an incredible view for piloting, scenery and comfort while underway. Neither the captain or first mate will miss a thing.
Waypoint has been fastidiously maintained. A regimented schedule of oil and filter changes has been performed along with other required maintenance on equipment. Routine haul outs have been performed about every 2 years with the necessary inspections of running gear, seacocks, packing glands, etc., performed and attended to as needed. Between haul-outs, the hull is cleaned monthly by a professional boat maintenance service with zincs inspected and replaced when needed. The electrical wiring is impressive with organized and tidy wire runs versus the tangled mess you see on some boats. There are wiring diagrams that will be much appreciated by any new owner.
The DeFever 49 is the perfect live-aboard and cruising boat with all the systems and equipment needed for that lifestyle. As a cruising vessel, she is comfortable and handles exceptionally well. The boat is in “turn-key” condition and ready to start you on your own personal adventure today. As mentioned above, the current owners recently returned from an extended cruise without a single issue arrising with the engines or other operational features of the boat. If you are in the market for a classic, trawler-style vessel, then Waypoint may just be what you have been looking for.
