The GOLDEN GATE 30 was also built as the FARALLON 29, BODEGA 30 and BAY ISLAND 30. Under the various names nearly 100 have been built.
This particular boat was purchased as a bare hull and custom built by the builder/previous owner. Klipsun was modeled after an Alberg 30, and is an almost exact replica of that famed vessel. Here are the things I love about this boat:
1. Build: She's tough and heavy duty. I have the through hull cores and the hull is easily 5/8" to 3/4" thick. Everything is overbuilt. Chain plates are massive. Rigging is perfectly sized. Cleats are oversize and well positioned. Dodger frame does not interfere with sailing.
2. Sail: She sails close to the wind. With the inboard chainplates you can really tighten the sail up and point 20 degrees off the wind. And she loves strong wind.
3. Cockpit: The tiller steering is great. Prop your feet up to leeward, lean back into the comfortable coaming, one hand on the tiller, the other on the main sheet, and just fly along. The cockpit is small for blue water sailing, and very comfortable.

I spent several years digging deep into this boat, waving the magic wand of time, energy, and money and making everything I touched better than new. Since then I have spent summers sailing South Sound, North Sound, the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands. This boat was made for gunkholing.
