The Chris 45 Commander MY is a traditional flush deck motor yacht of the type made popular by Chris Craft back in the 1960s and 70s. Heavily built to near bulletproof lamination schedules, there are many who find these old yachts to be the essence of beauty and design elegance. The standard two-stateroom floorplan came in several configurations over the years, and it's notable that the original galley-up layouts featured a full-width forward stateroom with the head compartment in the forepeak - a very unique arrangement. A popular three-stateroom interior with a deckhouse galley became available in 1977, and a more conventional two-stateroom interior with the galley down followed the next year. Interestingly, a dinette was never offered in the 45 Commander MY, a rare omission in a boat this size. A flybridge proved a popular option although most 45s were sold as hardtops in the early years. A good many 45 Commanders were powered with 325hp GM 8V71 diesels for an economical cruising speed of 14-15 knots and a top speed of about 18 knots. The cruising range is around 225-250 nautical miles.
On the recent run from Hartges in Galesville to CYC the engines started easily and ran smoothly with all temps and pressures normal. We ran 1250 rpms at approximately 8 knots just easing along. The boat has a LOT of character and has given the family years of memories. She's been in use continuously until she was winterized in the fall of 2021 and was just splashed two weeks ago for this season. Fresh bottom paint, zincs, hull wash and wax, and a full cleaning inside and out was just completed. The three staterooms and two heads provide lots of options for family, friends or grandchildren and she is truly built like a tank! The hull was originally white but was painted Navy blue years ago and still shines nicely.

Great opportunity on this classic 1978 Chris Craft Commander Motor Yacht to the market. The family is hopeful that the next owner will love and care for her in the manner that previous owner has for the last 25 years, and will continue to give her the same exceptional loving care. The fine folks at Hartges Yacht Yard in Galesville have kept her ship shape since 1994 and complete maintenance records are available. Recently the most important considerations have been the air conditioning, refrigeration and plumbing to provide a comfortable environment for cocktails and sea stories. I'm told if the boat could talk it would take years to hear them all! But the engines purr like kittens and the replaced genset only has 428 hours! The air conditioning will truly freeze you out of the boat if it's set too low. Easy to see at her longtime home at the Chesapeake Yacht Club in Shady Side, MD.
