There are at least 3 things about "Second Wind" that should attract your attention:
1) The Lifting Keel
2) Twin Rudders
3) In-Boom Furling Main
The lifting keel has the obvious benefit of allowing you to take the boat into many shallower nooks and crannies along the waterway that most sailboats can't go while maintaining a stable performance under sail with the keel down.
The twin Rudders give the boat better steering control as the boat heals to leeward when the wind picks up. Additionally, they can act as stabilizers if the boat sets down on a shallow beach to keep the boat level.
In Boom Furling gives you the advantage of the in-mast furling system without loosing all the roach and having the full length battens give the sail and boat a much better performance. Reefing is also simple when you reef to one of the battens, the distortion of the sail is minimized.
The Feeling Yachts are first and foremost great sailing boats designed to meet off-shore requirements and still maintaining a comfort level below for a couple or small family to cruise with all the features of a cruising boat.
Getting aboard "Second Wind" on the port side through the life-line gate is an easy step onto a non-skid deck with the genoa sheet track close to the cabin side and side stays close giving an easy walk forward. The deck is very flush and the cabin top also has a flush look with gentle curves with sky lights down to the main cabin and opening ports for all the cabins spaces below.
It almost looks like there is no mainsail on the boom since it is neatly rolled up on the furler and under the mainsail cover. The Traveler is forward of the companionway, so the crew moving up or down is totally separated from a gybing mainsheet in the cockpit. A Preventer has also been installed as an additional safety measure in case of an accidental gybe.. There's a deck vent in the cabin top over the head and sunken teak handhold going forward along the cabin top. Virtually all lines from the deck stepped mast are led aft through the Dodger to sheet stoppers and winches on either side of the companionway so everything is neat, tidy and accessible from the cockpit and out of the way on the deck.
All the way forward to the foredeck is a large anchor locker with lots of chain for safe anchoring. A wash-down hose and spigot and a chain plate for an inner forestay stands proud of the deck. Twin Cleats on starboard and port for docking.
There's a large forward hatch over the forward cabin and a hatch on starboard and port just forward of the deck stepped mast. Just aft of the mast are 3 "skylights" that provide lots of natural light below (flush with the cabin top). The chainplates are secured to the deck with a single post deck plate.
The dodger canvas and isinglass is not brand new, but in great shape and will certainly last several more seasons. The bimini aft is also in good condition and there are zippers on both to put in a "connector" panel if the weather requires it.
The primary winches are 2 speed Harken winches. The cockpit and comoing have a beautiful varnish finish. Behind the helm is a removable booster seat.At the helm is a Raymarine C80 Chart plotter and Plastimo Compass. Engine controls are single lever at the helm and gauges and shut off in the helm station right side. Raymarine gauges and autopilot controls are mounted on the Companionway Slide Hood facing the helm.
The cockpit table is permanently mounted with folding leaves on either side and cup holders at the helm. 2 speed Harken winches are on the cabin top under the dodger with sheet stoppers and a coiling system in place to keep the extra lines neat and tidy.Aft in the cockpit on either side under the side seats are large lockers for storing dock lines, fenders, hoses, cleaning, and miscellaneous gear and equipment.
Aft of the bimini is a Man Overboard bag, Aft of the cockpit is a nice swim platform with swim ladder, shower, and SMART PLUG insert for shore power. Additionally there is a garage storage area for an emergency life raft or other accessories. There is also a separate vented locker for the propane tank.
As you go down the 2 companionway steps you notice they are curved up on either side and non-skid for great traction and hand rails on either side so even when heeling under sail your feet and hands have something to help you stay in control. You first notice the beautiful condition of the varnish and woodwork. The interior is beautifully finished and has been well maintained. The designer has also installed lots of natural light sources from the opening hatches to permanent windows. The teak and Holly floor is in beautiful condition for the age of the boat.
At the base of the companionway on centerline is a cabinet with a small table top that's very convenient for placing things to move to or from the cockpit or just as a platform for hors d'oeuvres or cocktails. Under the table top is the liquor locker.
On the left is the head with pull out shower head and manual pump head mirror storage shelves, one opening port and one that does not.
Aft of the head is the port quarter berth with good headroom and double bunk, storage shelf and hanging locker. The main battery switches are on the mattress frame facing forward, fan and opening port. The hot water heater and Battery Charger are accessed from the port quarter berth behind a removable panel. Just forward is also an access panel to the top and port side of the engine.
On Starboard aft is a mirror double bed, shelve and hanging locker with access to the engine starboard side and further aft to the rudder quadrant and steering equipment.
Moving forward on Starboard is a locker for foul weather gear and the Navigation Station. A comfortable supporting seat for rough weather sitting at a forward facing Nav station. VHF, Stereo, and an abundance of spare parts and gear are stored under the table top on the shelves and under the navigator's seat. The electric panel is neatly organized for 12 volt switches and 110 aft.
Just ahead of the Nav Station is the main dining area all to Starboard. comfortable seating for maybe 7 around the dining table. On center line under the seats is access to the Lifting Keel cable and block system which has sight glass to allow you to visible inspect the condition of the cable and rope. There are 2 compression posts, one in front of the dining couch under the mast and one aft at the aft end of the Keel lift trunk.
The table can be lowered to for an extra large berth. Outboard of the dining seating are shelves and cabinets with a recesses opening port about the middle of the topside. There's a fan and reading light plus the natural light and ventilation for the opening hatch overhead and forward.
Back on the port side, just forward of the head is the in-line galley which allows the chef to prepare meals on the port side and serve to starboard. The refrigerated ice box is large, but not so large that you can't reach the items in the back or on the bottom. The stove is a 2 burner and oven. The double sink is next forward with a single lever faucet. These three items are pulled out toward the center of the boat to allow shelf and counter space outside with good lighting and another recessed opening port outside a small shelf. There are 2 cabinets one forward and another aft and a hand rail along the ceiling for moving around in rough weather. and abundant storage under the sink and open counter space forward.
Moving into the Forward Cabin, the bunk is off-set on the starboard side (a narrow double or large single berth). Storage space in 2 cabinets forward, a seat for changing clothes, 3 drawers on the starboard side and a hanging locker and storage cabinet on port. Both with shelves on top for small item storage. There's a fan and reading lights and the forward hatch also opens for more light and ventilation.

The Feeling 39 is the perfect sailboat for racing or cruising on the Chesapeake or other shallow areas with a lifting Keel. It's also the perfect size for shorthanded or solo sailing. Big enough to get performance and small enough to still be able to handle the sails and have comfortable accommodations below. The lifting Keel trunk does not hamper the comfortable cabin layout because it is under the cushions of the dining seat. Most important, however is the performance, and handling of the Feeling 39. With the in Boom furling system and Roller furling Genoa raising, reefing, and lowering the sails are easy and quick. Maintained in excellent condition, "Second Wind" is in sail away condition and will find a new owner quickly.
