Built at the end of 1987, Horizon is the first hull of the revised 38'
MKII design, and is a classic looking yacht made to Sabre standards in
South Casco Maine. It has had a single owner, only been in fresh water,
professionally maintained and wintered in heated storage. The teak
interior is open and welcoming and the wide beam offers generous space
to allow for the storage of provisions, fenders, foul weather gear and
spinnakers. With ten opening ports and six opening hatches there is
always plenty of ventilation. The convenient deck layout facilitates
double handed sailing, and the spacious cockpit easily handles cocktail
parties.
Horizon has had many upgrades over the years and it has regularly earned
the reputation of being a fast cruising boat with lots of beautiful
furniture down below. It is rare to find a yacht of this pedigree and
value. Only declining health is making the owner sell.
Accommodations:
Forward of the main salon is the master state room with a large 6'4” centerline berth. Beneath are
many deep drawers and lockers for storage of your personal gear. A comfortable seat is located to port
in front of a convenient vanity sink and mirror. A tall hanging locker is found to starboard, and a long
deep shelf extends from each of the bulkheads for the length of the V berth.
Deep and comfortable 6'4” long settees are found port and starboard in the main salon. The port side
converts to a double berth to be used for guests or underway. The centerline drop leaf table can
comfortably seat six adults.
Deep lockers outboard provide ample storage spaces. The main salon is well ventilated with a large
port-light and six opening ports. Four deck hatches are spread throughout the boat. Accordion shades
provide window covering when desired.
An aft facing chart table can truly be used under way. There is a Raymarine C-90 GPS/Chart plotter
mounted above the chart table. The ship's AC/DC electrical systems are displayed and controlled from
the custom electrical panel, and the ship's batteries are secured below the chart table seat.
The galley of the 38 MKII is a pleasure to work with while at sea or at the dock. The L shaped space
provides plenty of work room, and a folding extension leaf table can further augment work space.
Locker doors, handmade dovetailed drawers and storage spaces easily store all the provisions you have
to bring along. A double stainless steel sink with a single lever faucet is found on center line.
Outboard is a large ice box with two top openings which is cooled by an Adler Barber Refrigeration
system. The gimbaled three burner CNG stove and oven with a stainless steel grab bar is located aft
and outboard. A handy cupboard exposes a large garbage can for trash.
The aft cabin is spacious with a wide 6'4” berth, a hanging locker and a deep shelf along the bulkhead
to provide storage.
The head is complete with a shower and a small bench. Access to the head is from the salon.
