This history is manifest in the local cuisine, and expressed joyfully at Carnival time in April.  You can also enjoy a number of world-class golf courses, luxury shopping at the complex next to the marina, stunning beaches and the whole range of watersports.   The island of St Maarten/ St Martin was badly hit by hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017 causing devastation to the infrastructure and buildings, some of which may not re-open this season.  However, you can be confident that the marina office is fully operational and some slips and amenities, such as bathrooms and showers, will be open by 1 November 2017.
