The engine is easily accessed both front and back by removing the companionway stairs fin the front and a wall panel in the walkway of the aft cabin, giving easy access to the propeller shaft stuffing box and Rudder gland. The Steering gear is stock Edson radial drive. The engine is a Yanmar 3JH3E, 40HP/3800 RPM. There is a three blade auto prop which decreases drag when sailing. There is a combined A/C and heating unit forward of the main salon available on shore power/generator.

Deck and Hull Equipment

This 380 has the tall rig with wing keel. It’s been sailed in fresh-water only during the summer months. There is a combined A/C and heating unit forward of the main salon available on shore power/generator. There is a combined A/C and heating unit forward of the main salon available on shore power/generator. The standing rigging is attached to the deck next to the cabin allowing easy walk forward. Maxwell 800 electric capstan windlass with 50’ anchor chain and 150’ anchor rope, anchor wash at bow, Garhauer  mainsheet traveler on cabin top forward of the companionway, 4 vent hatches over main salon, hatches port and starboard over the aft stateroom. There is a full cockpit enclosure.  The dodger and cockpit cover Sunbrella fabric is original and faded, but still functional.  We just replaced in 2022 the clear vinyl in the dodger and the 2 overhead view panels.  The side cabin has opening ports in forward berth, main salon, head, and galley with screens and hidden shades.  All sheet and halyard lines run to cockpit.  It has Genoa adjustable traveler system.  The cockpit is large with excellent all-round visibility, a large Edson pedestal 40-inch wheel and permanent folding cockpit table, which provides solid foot support when heeled over . Engine controls and electronics are at the wheel, the latter in a convenient pod in front of the compass. All the sailing controls are relatively close to hand, the mainsail being controlled with a double-ended sheet and a low profile ball-bearing main traveler by Garhauer atop the low cabinhouse. The walk-through transom with swim platform has a ladder that functions as part of the stern pulpit and can be lowered at anchor.  The davit supports double as handrails when you're using the ladder. There is a hot/cold shower at swim platform with 2 storage lockers.  One has a base fitting the footprint of a Honda 2000 portable generator. The generator is extremely quiet and wonderful for using in a quiet anchorage.

Additional Equipment

EPIRB, ditch bag, 10' Walker Bay Genesis dingy with Mercury 15 hp 2 cycle outboard motor mountable on the stern for traveling, using one davit arm to lift is onto a motor mount. Great Lakes Cruising Club books,  Milwaukee battery driven Power Drill with winch socket fitting to turn your winches into power winches, man overboard lights, 2 auto-inflatable life jackets, 8 coast guard approved life jackets, dinghy lights, rain covers for overhead hatches, windscoop, cockpit screen, and an accumulation of gear found useful in 50 years of cruising the Great Lakes.

Galley Equipment

You step down from the cockpit into a large galley and navigation area with nonskid companionway steps and sole. The L-shaped galley with double sink and three-burner propane stove with oven lies to port. There are large storage lockers outboard of the cooking area. The 12 Volt refrigeration and small freezer has access from the front and top and a drain foot pump to remove water from bottom of frig.  There is a microwave, a 3 burner propane stove with oven.  Large storage area for beverages next to galley in the main salon,. A deep locker and plenty of counter space make food preparation and cleanup easy, as does a small counter-top butcher-block surface, which tilts straight into a trash chute, a convenient feature rarely seen on yachts of this size. The test boat had an optional microwave oven neatly installed above the stove. There are 96 gallons of water stored in three tanks. The three water tanks are opened and closed with access under the kitchen cabinet.

Accommodations

The staterooms lie at both ends of the yacht, effectively forming two private sleeping areas for two couples. The owner's cabin aft has a Queen size double berth with numerous storage bins and lockers within easy reach. Two comfortable upholstered seats flank the foot of the bed with hanging lockers to port and starboard. Two opening hatches provide extra airiness as well as direct access to the cockpit in an emergency.  The hatches lie under hinged cockpit seats so they do not obtrude on deck, but offer extra light and ventilation along with the 12 v fans over each berth. You enter the aft cabin to port; the single head to starboard can be entered from either the cabin or the saloon. This is a thoughtfully designed molded compartment that is easily cleaned. It has an enclosed shower stall with an acrylic door. No mess, no splashing. The forward stateroom features a large V-berth with center insert and storage shelves on both sides, a clothes locker to port and 4 storage under the V-berth. The air conditioner/heater takes up most of the starboard locker.

The saloon is comfortable with a dinette arrangement and table to port and a long, comfortable berth to starboard. The dinette table can be lowered to become a double berth.  Long bookshelves and convenient stashing spaces line the cabin sides, with a convenient grab handle set to starboard for standing crewmembers.  The teak-finished navigation station has a comfortable swivel chair, a hinged chart table and ample space. A large, well-labeled electrical panel faces the navigator, making wiring an easy task. The main battery and anchor windlass switches are under the chart table. The batteries easily accessible at the foot of the companionway under the galley floor.  Nine opening hatches which provide a steady flow of air through the interior.

Catalina 380 (2001)  for sale by David and Betty Brown. Cruise ready for the Great Lakes.  We are the 2nd owners of this fast and agile live-aboard cruiser. It’s been sailed in fresh-water only during the summer months.  New Garmin electronics in 2019 with double displays, radar, GPS, depth, speed, wind. Autohelm  ST6000+, cockpit cushions, full enclosure of cockpit, and Garhauer davits so your dingy travels safely out of the water when your on the move but is ready at a minutes notice when needed. There is walkthrough transom with a platform and folding ladder integral with the stern pulpit.  The davit supports double as handrails when you're using the ladder. The only non-working gear is the engine hour meter.  It died long ago.  My estimate of engine hours as 2000 comes from multiplying our trip from Marietta, WI where we purchased the boat in early fall of 2008, and 10 trips from Port Huron area Michigan to the North Channel above Manitoulin Island in Northern Lake Huron every summer we owned the boat until 2019,2020,and 2021, due to upgrading equipment in 2019 and Covid in 2020-21. It comes with our 15 hp Mercury outboard and 2009 Walker Bay Genesis RIB dinghy. Both are old, but functioning. Also comes with 50 years of accumulated gear over and cruising club books from our wonderful life sailing together.
