However, modern development began at the end of the 19th century with the advent of the first sanatoriums. At the beginning of the 20th century, it became one of the best sea resorts located in Central Europe, along with Opatija, Lido and Grado, arriving back then as part of the Austrian coast. In the center is the Hotel Palace, once considered one of the most important resorts of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, and is currently one of the best hotels between Venice and Dubrovnik.
