The natural harbor and anchorage of Toulon have long been a busy trading port and naval base. Toulon, the main naval base of the Mediterranean France , unfortunately, very little remains of the former Greek and Roman presence. There is a great approach from the sea, and the Grande Rade is a great place for swimming.

Toulon became important in 1589, when the governor of the province ordered the construction of Darce Viel. Construction was funded by a 25% tax on olive oil. The harbor was built 21 years later, in 1610. Initially, it was protected by a huge chain thrown across the entrance to prevent an enemy attack.

City of impressions

Take a step back in time and tour the old city of Toulon, rich in culture and a place for guests with a rented yacht who want to experience the French Riviera at a less crazy pace in Provence. Among the religious sites of the city is the the majestic Cathedral of Notre Dame de la Seds de Toulon , which, if you visit it on Sunday, will provide you with a full authentic atmosphere when the parishioners sing together in a chorus to the great church authority. Another exquisitely decorated pastime is Opera de Toulon, which is located in the city center, performing the greatest operas of all time.

The pedestrian area of the Old Town is well suited for wanderers who like to find attractions for themselves and not always plan ahead: fountains of various shapes and sizes are scattered across the streets and the Provencal market, where local produce is sold every morning production.

In 2009, Toulon was the 15th largest city in France, but despite being quite far below the list, it has several impressive and diverse attractions : among the many museums are Asian the museums of art of the French colonization of Southeast Asia, the Museum of Art and the Hotel of Arts are the last dedicated to contemporary artists. Exhibitions are held five times a year.

Rest on land

Those who are interested in navigation will enjoy the exhibitions at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, which informs visitors about the historical influence of the city. Far from shops, first-class restaurants and galleries, guests can enjoy the glass-bottom cable cars for panoramic views and walks to local attractions.

If your yacht group is just looking for a day on land, Toulon has many gardens where you can sit and enjoy the flowers or discover the delights of the city off the beaten track. Catch the latest local and international movies at the cinema and have fun at the local cafe tempting yourself with French pastries and a delicious cup of coffee.
